Career Summary & Experience
I've been writing poems and stories since I was a child, but I honed and enhanced my craft during my time as a Creative Writing graduate student at the University of North Alabama. I completed the Master of Arts in Writing in May of 2021. Since then, I've published my own collections of stories and poems, while also helping others publish their own works.
I've been working in higher education since 2008, starting at Tuskegee University. But even before that, while getting my bachelors at the University of Montevallo, I was a work study student for the school of business and the library. Since completing my bachelors, I've worked in student housing, a variety of academic departments, and student services for various of universities and community colleges. I currently work as an advisor in the Alabama Community College System.
I've been teaching university-level writing courses since 2021. I taught professional writing and technical writing at Purdue University for two years and currently work at the University of North Alabama as an adjunct in the English Department (teaching first year composition and world literature courses). I also provide tutoring and continuing-education-style courses to students in the Alabama Community College System.
I've been leading and participating in one-on-one sessions and creative writing workshops since 2018, helping colleagues, peers, and students finetune their storytelling, convert their thoughts and journals into well-organized narratives, organize their lectures and notes into publishable books, and ensure that their writing remains authentic to who they are. I complete this type of work while making sure they represent their knowledge and expertise to full capacity.
